GS&F is a full service marketing agency located in Nashville, TN. It was founded in 1978 and employs seventy people. They like many agencies are embracing change and believe that the typical PR, advertising and marketing agencies have become irrelevant. To attract business in today’s marketplace you have to be able to not only come up with great ideas, but also help execute the idea and assist with communicating with the customer.
I spoke with Liz Parker who is an Assistant Account Executive and is also in charge of the internship program at GS&F. She said her typical day starts with going through her email and prioritizing what needs to be done first. Liz also stated that her day is filled with several meetings. These meetings can be internal with co-workers or external dealing with clients and their projects. Liz also spends time researching news and happenings in each of her clients industries. If she has any spare time she tries to review the information for her upcoming pitch to her client.
She is also in charge the magazine Engineered Wood. Liz also maintains the the social media presence for Engineered Wood. Twice a week she must decide what projects are suitable to assign to the intern. GSF’s internship program introduces students to the world of a PR agency. The internship program allows interns to gain valuable experience by writing press releases, monitoring media, and other various activities.
