Say “thank you” starting now

Andrea Walker is the CEO of her own company, W. Social Marketing. She has a very interesting story of how she got to this position.  Although she is not much older than most students, she has done amazing things in her working career.

There were three main points I chose from Andrea to place into my own life and experience.  I would encourage anyone interested in the public relations/advertising/news industry to do the same.

  1. Say “Thank you.” Tell everyone who helps you – thank you. No matter if they are above you or below you, tell them thanks for helping, explaining, everything. If they give you an opportunity to learn, tell them thanks.  This simple gesture is important.
  2. Start young.  In our case, that’s now! Start exploring your options.  Work in different settings.  Find out what you like and what you do not like.  This way when it is time to find what you want as a career, you will have some sort of idea from real life experience.
  3. Be up to date with technology. We are the generation that understands technology, but make sure you keep up with all the new things.  Be able to take whatever it takes to “get it done” and do it before the person in a rival job does.
Andrea has an amazing story and has worked very hard to be where she is now.  If we listen to these three simple recommendations, we will be on the right track (with very much to go).
