A high school in Jackson, Mississippi cancelled its prom because two girls wanted to go together. The school said that its policy is that your date had to be of the opposite sex. After a board meeting, the school decided that it would be best to cancel the dance altogether.
One of the girls, who shall remain nameless, said that she did this out of retaliation. She knew that it would upset some of her classmates, but she still insisted on bringing a date of her same sex. Even though it did upset a few of her peers, some people agreed that it was a little petty to not allow the couple to attend the dance together.
A classmate said, “it’s kind of ridiculous that they can’t let her wear the tuxedo and it all be over with,” according to the article “School prom off after lesbian’s date request.”
This is true, it shouldn’t matter who someone takes to prom. Until it causes problems or bothers and upsets others, it should be left alone. In PR, it is important to maintain popularity with the public. To do this, one must try to please everyone. By not having a prom, it upsets the parents and students.
